Making an Appointment
Many patients contact us directly for information prior to obtaining a prescription from a physician. Fortunately, we do not require prescriptions for consultations and these initial appointments are performed at no charge. However, obtaining a prescription and patient demographic information via fax prior to a consultation allows us to have more informed and productive discussions with patients.
Referring professionals may fax prescriptions and patient demographic information to us at 919.383.2838. Please click here to learn more about the referral process for medical professionals.
Initial Consultation
This is our first opportunity to learn about our patient's needs and expectations and to answer questions. We evaluate each patient closely and try to provide an assessment of what a prosthesis can and cannot provide. With input from the patient and the referring physician, we can develop a treatment plan. An administrative staff member will investigate insurance benefits, discuss coverage and answer questions regarding financing. If insurance authorization is already in hand and if the patient chooses to proceed, an impression of the treatment area can also be completed during this appointment. An impression is made directly on the patient's skin by applying a flexible material around the treatment area to capture all surface forms and surrounding detail. This permits us to make an extremely accurate model of the treatment area. Reference photos will also be taken.
The Fabrication Process
Every prosthesis we create in our Clinic is unique to each patient. The patient is present and directly involved in the color matching and sculpting sessions to achieve optimum results. With patient approval, we can proceed from prototype to finished prosthesis. Our prostheses are carefully sculpted to restore visual symmetry to the body and meticulously simulate the translucency, texture and color of living tissue. In addition to having a natural appearance, we believe a successful prosthetic restoration must be reliably retained, easy to use, and durable.
Delivery
During the delivery appointment we ensure that the fit of the prosthesis is accurate and comfortable. Extrinsic colors are added to achieve the best match possible to the adjacent tissue. We show the patient how to put on and take off the prosthesis and provide education on daily care of the device.
Repairs
Each prosthesis is covered under a 90-day warranty for fabrication defects. Repairs and refurbishments are subject to charge after the 90-day period.
