Facial Prostheses |
The Anaplastology Clinic creates custom silicone facial prostheses, often referred to as maxillofacial prostheses, to restore face and head anatomy lost to illness (such as cancer), trauma, or congenital conditions.
After obtaining a positive model of the patient's affected area, the anapastologist sculpts a prosthetic design that restores the active function of the lost anatomy. Wrinkles, skin pores and other fine details are sculpted into the prosthesis so that the margin blends into the patient's remaining anatomy. During coloring sessions with the patient, our anaplastologists formulate an exact skin-tone match. The formulated colors are used in intrinsic layers to mimic the appearance and translucency of the patient's own skin.
A facial prosthesis, such as an ear (auricular), eye (orbital), nose (nasal), or partial facial, can be retained by adhesive, anatomical fitting or surgical implants.
