Jay is a highly skilled artist, problem-solver, and innovator. Starting in 1989, McClennen worked as a freelance artist with his own company, Spire Art & Design in Ontario, Canada. Much of his research during that time had been in silicone gel-filled prosthetic appliances with emphasis on natural tissue movement, achieving hyper-realistic results.
Four years of classical education in figurative sculpture at the Ontario College of Art & Design and specialized training in forensic art have led Jay to recreate the human form in the varied, but related fields of film, forensics and medical prosthetics. Jay has excelled in all of these areas. In the Hollywood film industry, Jay worked for 17 years with Gordon Smith, President of FXSmith. Smith is recognized in the film industry as an innovator in silicone prosthetic technology. The team received Emmy and Hollywood Make-up Artist Guild nominations and won Gemini and Saturn Awards. Jay's filmography can be seen on the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB). With Jay's skill and professional training in forensic facial reconstruction, he provided an invaluable service to the Ontario Coroner's Office, local law enforcement, and the rest of the Ontario community by assisting them in putting a face on unidentified human remains in the early 2000s. In addition, he has become a pioneer in the field of anaplastology. |
Over the last 15 years, Jay has concentrated solely on medical prosthetics, exploring new methods and materials for facial and limb prostheses while making advances in custom breast designs. After working for two years at Toronto Sunnybrook Regional Cancer Center's Craniofacial Prosthetic Unit in Toronto, Jay moved to Durham, NC and joined his colleagues in anaplastology from Duke University Medical Center's Anaplastology Clinic. In 2008 he partnered with Jerry Schoendorf and took the Anaplastology Clinic to a private setting, The Anaplastology Clinic, LLC.
Jay has given lectures and presentations on innovations in anaplastology internationally and has been published in several peer reviewed medical journals. He is an Adjunct Consultant in the Department of Surgery at Duke University Medical Center and an Adjunct Instructor at the University of North Carolina's School of Dentistry in the Department of Prosthodontics. Jay had been an active member of the Board of Directors for the International Anaplastology Association for eight years including serving as President of the association in 2013-2014. In 2015 he was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the Board for Certification of Anaplastology (BCCA). He is now the sitting President of BCCA. In addition, Jay is a member of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics (AAMP) and a member of the American Society of Oculartists (ASO). |

As the Clinic Director, Tammy works mostly behind the scenes to keep the Clinic running smoothly. With her business partner and husband, Jay, they have assembled a team of talented, caring, and personable individuals to serve the people in North Carolina and beyond.
Tammy was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In 2008, Tammy & Jay relocated to Durham, NC to open their private clinic. Studying Business Management in University gave Tammy job opportunities at many great organizations, including the career she had at OCAD University. The Ontario College of Art & Design is Canada’s largest and oldest educational institution for Art and Design and she is proud to have been a key member of the Administrative staff in the Faculty of Design for 13 years. Being part of this creative environment was an amazing experience for her. |
Throughout her career Tammy also freelanced with Jay on many of his art and design projects as a studio assistant. It was natural, with her administrative experience and studio background, that she would oversee the Clinic’s operations.
After a long workday, Tammy loves coming home to her 2 boys, Finnegan and Boomer, who happen to be the sweetest cats anyone could wish for. Tammy and Jay have done a lot of traveling and have been fortunate to meet many anaplastologists from around the world. They still have many more places to explore, people to meet, and new things to experience. |

Jessica received her BFA in film/television from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where she concentrated in cinematography. After spending a few years working in the camera department on various projects she migrated to working with still imaging. Eventually this led her to attend Duke University Medical Center’s Ophthalmic Program in order to receive her COT (Certified Ophthalmic Technician) certification with the intent of entering the field of retinal imaging. Jessica found she preferred patient contact and the diversity of clinic rather than scanning and upon completion of the program she spent five years working for a general ophthalmic practice as a COT. There she performed various vision tests ranging from obtaining a new glasses Rx, checking muscle alignment, to scans and imaging.
|
Throughout this time she continued to practice fine art photography by creating miniature tableaus and photographing these. Her work has been shown nationally and she is published in a variety of magazines.
This background makes her the perfect fit for The Anaplastology Clinic since they began serving the ocular community. She is very excited to be here and to be able to merge these two worlds of art and ophthalmology. |
