Digit and Limb

Upper Limb

An upper limb prosthesis can restore passive and/or active function, such as grip, and can enable the patient to perform fine motor skills more successfully.

The Anaplastology Clinic creates highly realistic upper limb prostheses including:
  • Fingers
  • Partial hands
  • Durable custom gloves for passive and myoelectric prostheses
  • Functional devices

FINGERS
For patients who have experienced the loss of a finger(s) due to trauma, disease or a congenital condition, a silicone finger prosthesis serves an important functional role:

  • Protects the surgery site which is commonly hypersensitive
  • Typing
  • Hobbies/sports
  • Clerical work
  • Household tasks
  • Personal hygiene tasks
  • Improved confidence

Suction retention is the most common method to ensure a comfortable and secure fit for a finger prosthesis, though other retention methods, such as adhesives, are also available.

PARTIAL HAND
A silicone partial hand prosthesis includes multiple fingers and incorporates the palm into its design. Wire armatures can be embedded into the prosthetic finger(s) which can then be manually positioned for greater functionality.  A partial hand prosthesis offers many functional benefits:
  • Protects the sensitive surgery site
  • Enables the patient to grip, push or pull
  • Aesthetic restoration improves patient confidence
A partial hand prosthesis is typically retained using an intimate anatomical fit with mild tension.

FUNCTIONAL DEVICES
We offer a wide variety of functional devices including custom functional devices created to aid in specific tasks.
  • Naked Prosthetics
  • M-Fingers
  • Titan Fingers
  • Texas Assistive Devices
  • Total custom device upon patient request

CUSTOM SILICONE GLOVES
Custom silicone myoelectric gloves protect the inner components of myoelectric prostheses while restoring the natural appearance of the deficient upper limb.

A custom silicone myoelectric glove is directly sculpted in silicone on a model of the patient’s prosthesis.  This provides a more intimate fit, greater durability and can improve gripping capabilities.

Our team offers more than 10 years of experience specifically in the design and fabrication of custom silicone myoelectric gloves.  We use silicone materials with enhanced physical properties that yield higher tear strength, greater elongation and abrasion resistance.  Our myoelectric gloves are reinforced with Kevlar cloth to protect the cosmesis from internal abrasion caused by myoelectric componentry. This is a critical feature as technological advancements have brought forth myoelectric hands with faster closing/opening speeds and stronger grip forces.

Custom gloves are also available for passive function designs with posable fingers.

Lower Limb

A silicone lower limb prosthesis plays an important role in restoring a patient's balance, alignment, and proper walking pattern or gait.

Suction retention is the most common method to ensure a comfortable and secure fit for a toe prosthesis.  Partial foot prostheses typically rely on an intimate anatomical fit and mild tension in specific areas of the residuum.

TOE
A silicone toe prosthesis restores the natural anatomy of the patient's foot, can reduce overloading, and prevent adjacent toes from migrating and crowding.

PARTIAL FOOT
Custom silicone partial foot prostheses restore patient anatomy, can improve patient comfort, and help reduce skin friction by virtue of an intimate fit based on the patient’s unique anatomy. Our prosthetic solution goes beyond a simple foam toe-filler. It is important when finding an anaplastologist to create a partial foot restoration, you employ a practitioner who works with or is also a credentialed prosthetist, orthotist, or pedorthist.

Our design offers:
  • Total contact based on an impression of the patient’s residuum
  • Intimate fit promotes volume control
  • Protective padding via shock absorbing silicone
  • Proper distribution of forces throughout the foot
  • Anatomical restoration
  • Incorporated orthotic corrective modifications
  • Easy cleaning
  • A prosthesis that can conform to multiple shoe types
